Picture the following scenario: a popular franchise is about to hit theaters with a brand new installment that promises to spark a new cinematic universe. While youre interested in catching this film in theaters, youre not sure if youll be able to as theres a bit of a knowledge gap that stands in your way. Thats the time that a nice, easy video like the one Ryan Reynolds just shared for Pokemon: Detective Pikachu would be handy. As youve now seen, the world of Pokemon is a pretty diverse ecosystem of creatures, each with their own classifications and abilities. So if youve been watching the trailers for Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and have marveled at the live-action debut of not only Pikachu, but also tons more Pokemon that will reach the eyes and hearts of audiences in May, youre not alone in being interested to know more about their names and skill sets.

Of course, you dont need to know anything about Pokemon to want to see Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, as anyone who enjoys a good crime caper and/or Ryan Reynolds comedy stylings might happen to be up your alley anyway. The trailers have certainly done a good job setting up the world of the famous pocket monster video games for the common moviegoer, and now with this extra bit of background, audiences should be ready for the adventure that Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is ready to dish out.

But if you really want to take in the world of Rime City, and the other locales that Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will travel to, it helps to know if that little pink creature in the coffee shop will write on your face, should you be lulled to sleep. Avatar 2 Adds Edie Falco In A Key Role

By time Avatar 2 takes its place in theaters on December 18, 2020, it will be a little over a decade since James Camerons first film in the franchise was released. But if the casting process is any indication, this wait has not only given them plenty of time to make the technological advancements the sequel needs, its given Cameron and company time to put together a stellar cast. Case in point is the latest casting announcement below, introducing The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco as General Ardmore.

Billed as the commander in charge of the RDAs interests in the Avatar sequels, Falcos role sounds like itll be crucial not only to Avatar 2s storyline, but also the arc covered in the remaining films planned so far. Should that be the case, theres a chance that Edie Falcos General Ardmore could be an even greater, more evil threat than Stephen Langs Col. Miles Quaritch, who is set to return to the ranks of the RDA in some capacity for the Avatar sequels.

This new casting is definitely a welcome surprise for Avatar 2, as Falcos career has mostly involved very grounded comedy/drama projects. In addition to her landmark TV work, Edie Falco has been seen in films like Megan Leavey, and most recently Netflixs The Land of Steady Habits. So seeing her in such realistic fare obviously sets up this Avatar 2 announcement as a welcomed shock, especially for those fans who are now picturing Carmella Soprano getting ready to terrorize Jake Sully, his Navi family and anyone who gets in her way.

Edie Falcos hiring only makes the current cast for Avatar 2 (or Avatar: The Way of Water if the rumoured title turns out to be legit) that much more impressive. And this is keeping in mind the fact that one of the first big hires was James Camerons Titanic collaborator Kate Winslet. Cast as a character named Ronal, she will be a member of the Metkayina tribe on Pandora, though we have yet to learn where her allegiances lie in the forthcoming story.

Avatar 2 will also see the return of previous cast members such as Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri and Dileep Raos Dr. Patel. So the vast cast being brought on board is undoubtedly a play to introduce us to a rich panoply of characters well see grow and expand along with the Avatar series. Which is, indeed, something this series will need to do once it starts up again.

Undoubtedly Avatar 2 might be a tough sell, seeing as its been so long since that first film broke all of the records. In the decade Jake Sully and friends have been away, Star Wars and Star Trek came back to life, making the big budget sci-fi landscape all the more crowded. Plus, Avatars backlash has been allowed to set in over that much time, which has some questioning if these sequels will even come close to making the money some would expect after such an auspicious start.

So naturally, new characters and respected actors to play them is a wise strategy that any franchise would engage in. And with Avatar 2 posing a possible clash between Kate Winslet and Edie Falco, at the heart of the foundation laid by Avatar so long ago, one cant help but think this could be the shot in the arm this dormant giant could need to reign again. Time, and Twitter, will tell, as that will undoubtedly be the platform to keep an eye on, as Falcos casting was made public through that very venue.

Well see what happens as we get closer to Avatar 2s slated release date of December 18, 2020 a date we hope is pretty much written in stone at this point. However, if you want to get another rush of a similar calibre of sci-fi world building, with James Camerons hand also involved in the proceedings, Alita: Battle Angel will be in theaters to help you out on February 14th.

Captain America: Civil War Almost Had A Very Different End Battle

The Russos' Captain America: Civil War featured a fair number of narrative twists and turns, including the reveal that Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) murdered the hidden Winter Soldiers instead of using them to topple world governments. It was a major plot shift to make room for the big showdown between Cap (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), but it also turns out that there was originally a bigger plan for those badass Hydra assassins in the film's climax. Scott Adkins, who was supposed to play one of those soldiers, opened up in a recent interview and explained:

Well again they say, you know I was almost in Civil War. There was a part. The, uh, super soldiers, they were meant to be a bigger part of the movie at one point. And I met with the Russos about that, but they decided to lessen those parts and make it more about Captain America and Winter Soldier and Iron Man, right? That fight at the end. So that didn't happen. I was devastated at the time, but obviously they remembered me and Doctor Strange came up.

Talk about a drastically different version of the story. It sounds like in its original incarnation, Captain America: Civil War featured a bigger brawl between the heroes and the squad of highly-trained Winter Soldiers hidden at the Siberian outpost. That was an early version of the climax, but it eventually changed when the Russos decided to streamline the story and make it more about the hero-on-hero combat. However, as Scott Adkins noted during his appearance on the Empire podcast, he did eventually get to star as a henchman in Doctor Strange instead (which led to him kicking Benedict Cumberbatch in the chest), so he can't be too upset about the whole thing.

In the movie's final cut, the Winter Soldiers featured in Captain America: Civil War acted more like red herrings than real bad guys. They were teased as the main threat that Cap and Bucky needed to stop, and Iron Man showed up at the end of the movie to lend a hand. However, once the three heroes arrived at the Siberian facility, Zemo revealed that he actually killed all of the remaining soldiers, with the real intent of pitting the Marvel heroes against each other upon the realization that Bucky killed Tony's parents. Of course, at the end of the day, there's a strong case to be made that this was the right call. Captain America: Civil War is regarded as one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date by many fans, with a significant portion of the film's praise stemming from its more contained third act that pits heroes against each other instead of heroes against traditional villains. We don't know precisely what that original version of the story would've looked like, but Civil War definitely works well the way it is.

With all of that said, we will see where Cap, Bucky and Iron Man go next when The Avengers assemble once again for Avengers: Infinity War on April 27. 6 Ways The MCU Could Bring Back The Red Skull

It seems as though Marvel has a plan for Red Skull, and while no one seems to know what that is, the fact that Hugo Weaving was asked to return as the character has many people speculating. Should Marvel be planning on bringing Red Skull back via the MCU, here are some of the ways it could do it, as well as some of the reasons why his re-inclusion would be beneficial to the brand.

As A Free Man Who Can Do What He WantsShould Red Skull return to the MCU, it's already confirmed he'll no longer be bound to the will of the Soul Stone. The Russo's confirmed that once Thanos obtained the Stone, Red Skull was free to leave Vormir and do whatever he wants, free from its influence. This includes pursuing an Infinity Stone if he should so choose, provided he's willing to roll the dice again on a potential banishment.

Of course, we're talking about an exiled super-Nazi who's been enslaved by sentient Stones for several decades, so it's not like his options are completely open to doing a ton outside the world of villainy. The Russos' specific mention that Red Skull could pursue an Infinity Stone seem to strongly hint that he will, likely to fulfill his long-held dream of world domination. Who knows though, he might shock everyone and chill on a remote island until this all blows over.

As A Villain With Powers From The Soul StoneRed Skull's appearance in Avengers: Infinity War was quite a shock, especially considering he seemed far removed from the man he was in Captain America. While he's no longer cursed to stay on Vormir, it's possible some of the powers granted to him remained post-freedom. The details of what those powers may be are a bit foggy, but he was able to know Gamora and Thanos before they introduced themselves.

Red Skull also gained some humility from his 70 years as a prisoner of the Soul Stone, and while that's technically not a power, it's something he desperately needed. A self-aware Red Skull with a checked ego may help him better achieve his goals for world domination and make fewer mistakes the next time a hero tries to stop him. That's a dangerous thought considering the impact his return may have on the world, especially now of all times.

As Pre-Serum Johann SchmidtJust because Hugo Weaving wasn't down for a return as Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War doesn't mean he doesn't stand a chance of returning in Avengers 4. With time travel rumored to be an element in the film, all it would take is a scene around World War II or prior to incorporate Johann Schmidt in some way.

That's a big if, of course, as Ross Marquand stepping in to portray the villain could mean that Hugo Weaving is done with that character. That's not so problematic for present-day and future storylines involving Red Skull, but would almost certainly mean he won't be appearing with his original face, a.k.a. the face he shares with Weaving. We'll just have to wait and see what happens and whether Avengers 4 would even need to feature Weaving's Red Skull persona.

As An Asset To The AvengersRed Skull may be a key asset to the Avengers in Avengers 4. His time as a servant to the Soul Stone could've given him some valuable information regarding how that and the other Infinity Stones work, as well as secrets behind how they can be utilized to reverse what happened in Avengers: Infinity War. Red Skull could offer up the information at a price, or perhaps be "persuaded" by a hero not willing to negotiate with a Nazi.

He might even offer up information without a struggle, as those decades spent as a wraith really appeared to mellow him out. Of course, we're not expecting him to flip sides and be a reformed good guy, but perhaps Red Skull may understand that in helping the Avengers, he's furthering his own personal interests and keeping them off his back. Meanwhile, he can work on his comeback uninterrupted and be back more powerful than ever before anyone can stop him.

As The Villain That Is Keeping Chris Evans From RetiringAfter what feels like a solid year of mourning his inevitable retirement, MCU fans were blindsided by the recent news that Chris Evans might not be done with the role after all. That's great news, especially with the revelation that his greatest foe is free from his obligations to the Soul Stone and able to do as he pleases.

That and the fact that Red Skull's age was frozen in his prime feels like Marvel is setting the stage for he and Cap to clash again. Whether that goes down in Avengers 4 or another new Captain America film is another story and what expert Marvel theorists are trying to figure out. Red Skull coming back to the MCU in a meaningful way is a delightful treat, but in another movie to square off with Cap? That's the dream.

As A Villain For Bucky And SamRemember that Winter Soldier and Falcon limited series headed to Disney+? In the case that Captain America does die and Red Skull is on the loose, it kind of makes sense the burden of capturing him would fall on these two. Red Skull's return to Earth might just pave the way for whatever premise this project has in store and give these two heroes a thrilling adventure to tackle on streaming.

Anything's possible, and it might be why Disney tapped Ross Marquand to replace Hugo Weaving as opposed to just letting the character fade into obscurity. Obviously there's a plan for Red Skull, so even if his presumed presence in Avengers 4 is fast and fleeting and Chris Evans does end up retiring as Captain America, keep in mind this is always an avenue in which the villain could return for a longer adventure.
