Why Avengers: Infinity War Might Not Pull From The Comics As Much As Youd Think

Needless to say, there are going to be spoilers in this article, so only proceed if you want to know some secrets.

Usually, when a new Marvel Studios film prepares to reach theaters, fans can brush up on what to expect by visiting their local comic book store. Subtitles like Age of Ultron and Civil War pulled enough recognizable elements from their source materials of the same name that if you wanted to fill in some gaps, the comic books were a great place to start either before or after seeing the MCU movie adaptation. This likely won't be the case for Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War, for while Thanos has graced the pages of numerous important Marvel stories over the years, co-stars Chadwick Boseman and Mark Ruffalo told CinemaBlend that the books aren't really guiding the movie this time, for a specific reason. They told us:

Mark Ruffalo: This one, we're in new territory, really.Chadwick Boseman: It's different in this one, I don't know how to explain it. It's just because we're in so many different places.Ruffalo: And it's so different from the comic books. There's elements that are clearly the same, but when you really start to get into the story, everything changes. I did... Planet Hulk was a big influence for Thor 3, and the idea, the inkling of World War Hulk starts to... I read (that) way before doing this, and there's some interesting stuff in there, but honestly nothing so far directly related to this. ... [Infinity Gauntlet] is informative as well, but then again, it just gets so off of that topic that it starts to become a little confusing, where you're like 'Why isn't this in there? Why are we doing this?'Boseman: It actually takes away from what is actually happening in front of you I think, in this case.

In a way, that makes sense. At the time of the Marvel Comics bringing Thanos to light and eventually pitting the Mad Titan against Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the books were developing different storylines that wouldn't line up properly with what the MCU is doing. Key figures like The Fantastic Four are not available for this fight against Thanos, as well, do directly adapting the comic-book storyline isn't an option.

At the same time, the MCU is very deliberately setting up plot developments in its earlier films, and using Avengers: Infinity War to establish events that will carry on into Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The needs of the MCU are different from the whims of the Infinity War comic books, and so -- as Chadwick Boseman and Mark Ruffalo point out -- following that story note for note and beat for beat can actually take away from what the team is trying to accomplish in this massive film.

Is that the right call? Will purists of the Marvel Comics series be annoyed by the changes? Or will Avengers: Infinity War advance the MCU towards its pending culmination in a proper fashion? We will know as soon as the movie opens in theaters on April 27. We will have PLENTY more from the set in the days and weeks to come. Shazams Zachary Levi Continues Firing Back At Body Shamers

Next year Zachary Levi will play the title role of DC comics movie Shazam. However, it looks like he may have to deal with people being overly critical of his body every day between now and then. The actor is dealing with an influx of criticism from people who think that, rather than working out, he's wearing a padded suit to play the role of the superhero. Levi posted pictures of his current arms as evidence that he has in fact been doing the work, but that hasn't silenced his critics. However, his critics aren't silencing him either, as he recently fired back at a magazine story about the situation.

Last week Men Health ran a story about Zachary Levi's initial evidence that he was, in fact, working out. However, rather than simply reporting on the situation, the article basically made the argument that the evidence wasn't good enough. Of course, they also decided to tag him in the Twitter post of the story, leading to Levi responding, and figuring it must have been a slow news day.

The image in question was an unofficial one taken on the set where Shazam is filming in Toronto right now. It shows Zachary Levi dressed in the classic costume, and he is looking seriously muscled. However, some seemed to feel he was looking too muscled and that he was actually wearing a padded suit. Even after showing that Levi is in fact in serious workout mode, it seems that some feel the set image still looks more ripped than he does.

At the end of the day, believe what you want and move on with your life. it seems ridiculous that we're nitpicking over the look of the character based entirely on a single image, that we can't verify the authenticity of, to begin with. Anything from the angle of the shot to the lighting could influence what we're seeing there. It's just not a great picture to really judge what we're going to see when Shazam hits the screen. Zachery Levi also shouldn't have to defend his own body, but he has, and that should really be the end of it.

In the end, Shazam is going to be greatly changed due to the use of digital and other effects, just as every superhero movie is. You can never be sure that what you're seeing on the screen resembles reality, that's part of the point of making movies in the first place. It's clear that Zachery Levi has been doing the work to build some serious muscle, more work than most of us would ever do by choice. Can we leave the guy's body alone and just enjoy the movie?

We'll all get to see Shazam, who I'm sure will look awesome, in just about a year, on April 5, 2019.

The Conjuring Inspiration Lorraine Warren Has Died At 92

Since the spine-chilling release of 2013s The Conjuring, a successful franchise of sequels and spinoffs has ruled the horror genre. The interconnected universe is inspired by the lifelong work of Lorraine and Ed Warren (portrayed by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in the Conjuring films), who have investigated high-profile hauntings and chronicled supernatural phenomena. At 92, Lorraine passed away in her sleep on Thursday night.

The Warrens own New England Society of Psychic Research announced the news Friday morning (via Fox 61). Lorraine was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1927 and was a self-proclaimed clairvoyant and light trance medium. She and her husband founded the society in 1952 and conducted investigations into reports of paranormal activity, such as the Lindley Street poltergeist, West Point ghost and Amityville Horrors (which spawned 17 films).

The couple wrote 10 books together and traveled across the world lecturing on their findings. Ed Warren passed away in 2009 at 79 years old. One of their early cases was for Annabelle in 1968, a Raggedy Ann doll that was reportedly possessed by the spirit of a child named Annabelle Higgins. It inspired the Annabelle movies, which will continue with Annabelle Comes Home this summer. The upcoming film will see the first appearance of the Warrens in the spinoff series, thus making it a homecoming for the Conjuring universe.

The Conjuring is based on their assistance to the Perron family in 1971, who experience frightening paranormal sighting in their farm home in Rhode Island. Lorraine Warren served as a consultant for the first movie and even had a cameo in it. She seemed to have bonded with the actress who has portrayed her for the past six years, as Vera Farmiga took to Twitter this morning to honor her following the news of her passing. Take a look:

The couple looked to be the gritty real-life Ghostbusters who certainly made a mark on the subject matter for many belovedly scary horror movies and various supernatural and psychic phenomena. The Warrens also inspired the The Nun spinoff which became the highest-earning Conjuring film in 2018 when it racked up over $365 million worldwide. A sequel for The Nun is on the way, along with The Conjuring 3 and The Crooked Man.

Lorraine Warrens death also comes on the same day of the release of The Curse of La Llorona, the first Conjuring spinoff film that does not tie to the couples paranormal investigations, though it finds itself in the universes timeline between the two Conjuring films.

Although Lorraine Warren was not a filmmaker herself, she will have a lasting impact on Hollywood as her experiences continue to capture the interest of audiences and be immortalized through the dramatic portrayal of her by Vera Farmiga, who will play Warren again in Annabelle Comes Home, coming to theaters on June 28.
