A few months before Avengers: Infinity War arrived and started blowing the world away, Black Panther was doing the exact same thing. From opening day, the superhero film captivated audiences, breaking a ton of records and making boatloads of money in the process. It's fair to say that Black Panther was a legitimate phenomenon, and it certainly helps that it also happens to be a great movie. While the majority of the world had to learn this in theaters, Angela Bassett, who stars as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther, knew that it was something special on the set.

There's some moments and some sets where everyone catches the fever of it, the heat of it, and they're bringing the best to the moment. They're giving the full measure of their devotion, everyone. And that's what you experienced and felt and saw on that set.

In Black Panther, Angela Bassett plays Queen Ramada, T'Challa's mother. She doesn't have an especially large role in the movie, but she does provide a strong anchor that helps keep things together after Killmonger takes the throne. Bassett is great in the role, and the actress could feel the energy on the set as everyone was collaborating to make what would become one of the highest grossing superheroes films ever made. It was that energy and spirit that warned her early on that Black Panther was going to be something special, and the movie definitely went on to prove her right.

During The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actress Roundtable, Angela Bassett, along with talking about her Ryan Murphy-produced TV series 911, dropped a few thoughts about Black Panther. Even from just watching Black Panther, it's easy to tell that there were an energy and style behind it that was running at 100%. To be on that set must have been amazing, and Bassett confirmed as much.

The ending of Infinity War makes things a bit tricky, but Marvel Studios is definitely interested in pursuing Black Panther 2. Kevin Feige has stated that the ball is pretty much in director Ryan Coogler's court on when he wants to come back and work on the sequel. Hopefully, the sequel will be able to retain the same amount of energy and devotion which made the original movie so special.

The DC Universe is a very interesting place. While attempting to compete with the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC has forged its own path in a few ways. Most notably, DC doesn't announce slates of films in advance a la the MCU's phases. As a result, there are a ton of announced projects that don't have concrete release dates or any guarantee they'll actually come to fruition. One of them is the Birds of Prey movie, which seems to be picking up speed in its development process. Margot Robbie return to play Harley Quinn, and will likely introduce the DCEU's version of Catwoman, Huntress, and Black Canary. Fans have been wondering who might take these roles, although a new report indicates that Lady Gaga might have been approached. Furthermore, the singer/actress reportedly turned two roles down.

This shocking turn of events come to us from Batman-News, which cited a tweet claiming that Lady Gaga had been offered up to two different roles in Birds of Prey. She was reportedly approached to play either Black Canary or Huntress three months ago, but turned down the role(s). But given her intense involvement in A Star Is Born and her recently announced Las Vegas residency, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

News of Gaga's Birds of Prey snub will likely be disappointing for all the DC fans out there, who are longing for more information regarding the upcoming female-led film. When the project was first announced years ago, fans immediately began debating who would be taking on the femme fatale roles in the upcoming blockbuster. Plenty of names have been thrown around in the past few years, although Lady Gaga has the most starpower by far. Unfortunately, it seems she doesn't want to make her superhero debut anytime soon.

This latest rumor, while unconfirmed, is pretty wild. Especially given the fact that Lady Gaga was reportedly given her choice of both Huntress and Black Canary. While looking at the pop star you might think she'd be best for Canary (I mean, she can use HER VOICE to fight off the bad guys), I actually think Huntress would have been a more fascinating choice for Gaga. Huntress aka Helena Bertinelli, is one of the most deadly members of the Bat-family. Unlike the Batman and Robin, Huntress is ok using more deadly force to take out the criminals of Gotham City. She also has a tragic story related to mob violence, which would be a meaty role for Gaga to sink her teeth into. Plus, she could have used her Italian-American roots to bring the character to life on the silver screen.

There is arguably no hero with more self-awareness than Wade Wilson. Ryan Reynolds' smartass anti-hero cracks jokes about anything and anyone, and it looks like the same sense of humor that made the original Deadpool a hit back in 2016 will once again help sell Deadpool 2 to audiences. However, evidently not every joke made it into Deadpool 2's final cut, as one specific Disney gag was taken out at the behest of the folks at 20th Century Fox. Reynolds explained:

This is a sore spot for me because there's a joke in the movie that is not in the movie now because --- I'm probably not even allowed to say this --- Fox made me take it out. It had more to do with Disney, and they made me take it out. As I look back at it, I think maybe that was a wise decision.

So there you have it. We don't exactly know what the joke would've been, but it sounds like the folks at Fox may have flexed some muscle to get a Disney-themed joke dropped from Deadpool 2. Ryan Reynolds wouldn't go into much detail about the shift (in fact, he thinks he could get in trouble for just admitting that it happened), but it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that it might have something to do with the landmark business deal that saw Disney purchase 21st Century Fox for $52 billion last year. The deal hasn't officially gone through yet, which means Disney doesn't have official control over the Deadpool franchise, but the wheels have started turning.

Obviously we will have to wait and see what jokes ended up staying in the final cut of the movie. The most recent trailer for Deadpool 2 poked fun at Avengers: Infinity War by referring to Josh Brolin's Cable as "Thanos," so the cat is kind of out of the bag on that one. It's unclear if that gag was merely meant to be used in the trailer or if it's actually part of the final cut of the movie, but it is apparent that the step closer to the Disney brand may have had (at least some) influence over the final Deadpool 2 product. That said, Ryan Reynolds does seem to stand by the decision that it was the better move in the long run anyway.

Regardless of the fact that Ryan Reynolds and the folks behind Deadpool 2 had to cut a notable Disney joke, that doesn't change the act that there are still some minor jabs at the Mouse House in the film. Specifically, the actor made sure to note in his interview with EW that there is a recurring joke about Frozen somewhere in the R-rated sequel. We don't know the exact nature of the gag, but at least now we're aware we should keep an eye out for some type of reference to the 2013 classic.

With all of that in mind, Deadpool 2 will debut on the big screen later this month on May 18.
