Bryce Dallas Howard Admits There Was No Toilet On The Set Of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
From the outside, making big budget movies sounds very glamorous. You get do the coolest stuff imaginable, while also presumably being fed grapes in your trailer. But the reality isn't quite as idealistic, and there are grueling hours and plenty of discomfort. This extends to major franchises like Jurassic Park. The next installment is J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Bryce Dallas Howard recently shared one of the less flashy aspects of filming: there were no toilets. The franchise films in Hawaii's Kualoa Ranch, which does not feature facilities in most areas. As such, they had to drop trow and take care of business the old fashioned way.
So, there's this thing called nature. Yeah, and everything that comes out of our bodies is natural. So... there's no toilet! That's my way of saying there is no toilet.
Well, that's one way to get you into character. Because Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was filming in the middle of a nature reserve, there was no way that plumbing was an option. And while there was a base camp with trailers and toilets, that wasn't an option during filming. But the body's natural waste wasn't going to mess up the ecosystem, so they could do the deed in perpetuity.
Bryce Dallas Howard's comments to Nova FM definitely raise more questions for the greater franchise, considering how Kualoa Ranch was been the setting for the franchise dating back to the original Jurassic Park. Does this mean that Laura Dern and a possibly shirtless Jeff Godlblum also had to pop a squat in nature? Something tell me Goldblum is going to have some funny commentary if he's ever asked in an interview.
Furthermore, the Jurassic World poop truth bomb that Bruce Dallas Howard dropped also makes one particular scene from the original Jurassic Park a bit more unintentionally funny.
One of Jurassic Park's more humorous scenes come when Laura Dern's Ellie Sattler goes elbow deep in some Dinosaur doodie in order to conduct her research. It's a fun and iconic moment from the film's first act, although one has to wonder if it had another meaning for the cast. If they were expected to take care of business out in nature, the look of disgust from Jeff Goldblum's face might not be acting at all.
Anticipation for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is at an all time high, and the pressure is on to deliver a sequel as satisfying as Colin Trevorrow's most recent blockbuster. Jurassic World was the biggest film of 2015, and helped to launch Chris Pratt into bonafide movie star status. The upcoming sequel will take place both within and outside of the titular park, allowing for some new and interesting storytelling.
