Gothams David Mazouz Is Down To Play Batman In A DC Movie
Ben Affleck may have been the latest live action, cinematic Batman, but since 2014, David Mazouz has been playing a young Bruce Wayne on the TV series Gotham. Although viewers have watched Bruce learn the necessary skills to combat the forces of evil in his hometown over nearly half a decade, its only in the Gotham series finale later this year that well finally get to see Mazouz portray Batman. However, Mazouz is interested in reprising the Caped Crusader in a theatrical movie, although he acknowledged that physically, he'd need to wait several years to do so. In his words:
Oh, absolutely. I think I would need to be a little bit older, a little bit taller.
David Mazouz will be voicing Batman in the Gotham series finale, and his face will be the one seen under the cowl, but when it came to physically portraying the Caped Crusader, a 64 actor was brought in to wear the costume. So when it comes to playing Batman proper in a movie, as Mazouz told CinemaBlends own Nick Venable at the TCA winter press tour, hes not quite there yet, though he is game to take on the mantle of Gotham Citys shadowy vigilante again when hes older and physically more fit for the role.
It is worth mentioning that with Ben Affleck having officially retired as Batman, director Matt Reeves is looking for a younger actor to play The Batmans eponymous role. However, since hes only just turning 18 later this month, Mazouz is almost certainly too young to be considered for the job, even if he were the right height. Plus, Reeves is also reportedly looking for a big name actor to play the new Batman, undoubtedly meaning someone whos well-known around the movies realm, a level Mazouz hasnt reached just yet.
For now, though, we still have a little more time left with David Mazouzs iteration of Bruce Wayne on Gotham, with Season 5 hitting the halfway point next week. As for his post-Gotham career, the actor also talked about what kind of project hed like to work on next. He stated:
If I had my pickings, then I would love to do an independent film next. Just with a good role, nothing specific. I would love to do kind of a Winter's Bone kind of a movie, or Whiplash-esque kind of indie film.
Along with his five seasons on Gotham, David Mazouzs credits also included co-starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland in the TV series Touch, and movies like The Darkness and Incarnate. Regarding The Batman, Matt Reeves is looking to tell a noir story that highlight Bruce Waynes detective skills, and the movie will feature a rogues gallery, with The Penguin strongly rumored to appear.
You can see David Mazouzs final episodes of Gotham Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST/PST on Fox.
